We now have a Web Site!

Hey folks,

I know that I haven't updated this blog in forever, but I thought I'd reach out and do one last blog post. McMillanDesigns now has a website. You can go to www.mcm-designs.com and see us there. Parts of the site are still being worked on, but important information is there. I will no longer be updating this blog after today.

Thank you all and I hope to see you over at WWW.MCM-DESIGNS.COM.

The theory behind weighted blankets...

The theory behind weighted blankets is that the additional weight provides deep touch pressure, similar to a firm hug. This pressure has a calming effect, and helps to override distracting light-touch stimuli, such as a small tickle or the brushing of a blanket.

Welcome new followers

I just wanted to Welcome any new followers to the McMillan Designs Blog. Here is a little introduction to me and how McMillan Designs came about.

I am a stay at home mom of 4, one with special needs. I was introduced to weighted lap pads and blankets from our Occupational therapist. After doing some research online, I was excited to purchase a few for my kids; one to help my ADHD son focus on his homework more, another one for my son because he can't sleep, and one for my daughter who can't seem to sleep in her own bed. However, the cost of these lap pads and blankets were a bit out of my reach, especially since I wasn't sure they would even work.

I decided to try my hand at making one. I already own a sewing machine and know the basics, so what harm could it do, right? Well, I made the lap pad and blanket for my son and the blanket for my daughter. The results were immediate with my daughter. She is 4 and since we took her out of the crib, has NEVER slept the entire night in her own bed. Sure, we put her to bed in her bed. But at some point in the night, she would get up and come to my bed. I'm okay with that for a night or two here and there. But every night doesn't work. Mommy doesn't sleep good and Daddy doesn't sleep good.

After giving her the weighted blanket, she has felt comfortable and secure in her own bed though. She asks for it every night. When we have gone to the Grandparents house for the weekend, she said she would be fine as long as she had her weighted blanket. We made sure to bring it with us on vacation, and she even took it to school for show and tell one week. To say that the blanket has had an impact on her would be an understatement.

After hearing me boast about how this magic blanket made my child sleep in her own bed, I had requests from friends to help them and their children out. And this became the start of McMillan Designs.

My goal with this business is to bring the comfort my children have to you and yours. If a weighted blanket and/or lap pad can help your child with whatever their needs may be, I would like to help bring you that peace of mind.

AMOM Auction

Last night's AMOM Auction was fun and helped raise a lot of money for a great organization. Congratulation to the winner of the puzzle piece weighted blanket, I hope it works for whatever need(s) you may have.
